(More customer reviews)I'm not really a fan of Power Core Combiners. This is the only entry in that line I own. Probably would've liked'em more if the drones (arms and legs) also turned into robots. You know, TRANSFORMED. But every time I was in the toy aisle looking at Transformers Smolder just kept catching my eye. I mean how could he not? A rescue vehicle that is a Decepticon?! How devious. How delightfully refreshing. Seemed like he'd fit nicely on a shelf next to Barricade. A Decepticon firetruck, and he comes with a cool little amber Mini-con (Chopster) that turns into a fire-axe! (among other things) I love the paint job with its flaming Decepticon symbol and amber light bar.
The transformation is very easy. The back of the truck splits and pulls out to form the shoulders and the arms fold out from them. The front of the truck flip under and splits tom form the legs and feet. The Red, Black and white work equally well in truck or robot mode. The head seems to have a helmet similar to a fireman's helmet and the flip out 'commander' head seems to have a firefighter's breathing apparatus. There is no back to the truck in vehicle mode, and the windows are a weird brown paint not used anywhere else on the figure, but those are only minor gripes.
All in all Smolder is an awesome little figure, whether you're into Power Core Combiners on not. He's perfectly durable and simple enough for smaller children (although too young and the Mini-con is a choking hazard) and adult collectors should consider adding an interesting character like him to their collections. If you see him around 10 bucks or less definitely pick him up, he's one HOT deal...
And remember parents: If you don't like challenging your children, BUY AGE APPROPRIATE.
